Posted on Updated on

Sometimes, when we work in a Microsoft Word document, we might want to change the measurement unit of the ruler into some other unit. Who knows, we might be working on a document for someone else who measures their margins, tabs, etc., in a different set of units. Word 13, offers us several units of measurement, which are very easy and simple in order for them to be changed, as long as we follow the steps below.

First, we must select the File tab in order to move to backstage view. Once in backstage view from the left of the drop down menu that appears we select the category Options as shown in the image below.

File - Info

Once the category Options is selected the Word Options dialog box appears as shown below, where from the left of the dialog box we select the category Advanced.

Word Options - Advanced

Once the category Advanced is selected from the Word Options dialog box, we scroll down until we locate the area, which is named Display as shown in the image below. Under the Display area, we select the drop down menu next to where it mentions Show Measurements in Units Of:.

From the drop down menu, we can either select the measurements:

  • Inches
  • Centimeters
  • Millimeters
  • Points
  • Picas

All we have to do is to select the measurement that we want for our ruler and then press the OK button, which is located at the bottom right corner of the Word Options dialog box.

In the image below, I selected the measurement Points and straight away, the ruler’s measurement unit has changed.
