How To Edit Custom Dictionaries In Word 13

Posted on Updated on

In a previous post of mine I mentioned how to add a word in the Custom Dictionary in Word 13. What happens though when we want to edit the Custom Dictionary? How can we edit a word that we have already added? How can we delete a word that we have misspelled and already added it in the Custom Dictionary? Below I will describe how this can be done.

First of all we must select the File tab in order to move to backstage view, and then from the drop down menu that appears we select the category Options which is located at the bottom left of the menu.

Backstage - Options

Once the category Options is selected the Word Options dialog box appears as shown in the image below. Then from the left of the dialog box we select the category Proofing and then from the middle of the dialog box we scroll down until we locate the area which mentions:

When Correcting Spelling In Microsoft Office Programs

Once located we select the Custom Dictionaries button which is located at the bottom of the areas as shown in the image below.

Word Options - Proofing

Once selected the Custom Dictionaries windows appears. Here we notice under the area Dictionary List, all the languages that we have installed, such as Greek and English. Under the area All Languages we notice that the RoamingCustom.dic (default) is highlighted, and then from the top right corner of the window we select the Edit Word List button as shown below.

Custom Dictionaries

Once we select the Edit Word List command the RoamingCustom.dic window appears. Under the area Word(s): we can type in the word that we want to add in the Custom Dictionary as shown below. Once we type in the word we press the Add button which is located at the bottom middle are of the window. That is it, the word that we typed in the Word(s) area pane has been added in our Custom Dictionary. We can follow the same procedure for other words that we want to add in the Custom Dictionary.

Add A Word

If we want to delete a word from the Custom Dictionary all we have to do is to locate it and select the word which can be found in the area named Dictionary and then press the Delete button. If we select the Delete All button all the words that we have added in the Custom Dictionary and that were already include will be deleted.

Delete - Delete All

Even if we Add a word or Delete a word, at the end we must press the OK button for all the adjustments to take place.

In a future post I will describe how we can add a dictionary that we have downloaded over the Internet, such as a medical dictionary or a chemistry dictionary.

Below you can check out the video describing how to Edit the Custom Dictionary in Word 13, in order to Add or to Delete a word from it.
