Definition: Apps is an abbreviation for application. An App is a piece of software. It can run on the Internet, on our computer, or on our phone or other electronic device.
How many times we wished that there was an App that will extend the functionality of our spreadsheet or our document? Many times I believe!!!
Apps are now available in the latest versions of Word, Excel, Project. The post below will describe on how to install an app in Excel.
First of all we must select the Insert tab and from the area of the ribbon named Apps we select the command Apps For Office. Once the drop down menu appears we select the command See All as shown in the image below.
Once selected the Insert App window appears. The apps available for download are listed under the Featured tab as shown below. In order to show the steps, I have selected the app ModelSheet Excel Model as we can see in the image below. Also we notice that there is a rating of the apps available, and also we can see which ones are for free.
Once we have selected the app that we want to use by clicking on it, a webpage appears transferring us to office.microsoft.com regarding the app that we have chosen. In the example we are transferred to the ModelSheet Excel Model Creator page, where we can view all the Details, Reviews and Requirements of the application. In order to continue the installation we must select the Add button as we can see in the image below.
Once we have pressed the Add button we are prompted to sign in to our Microsoft Account in order to continue, as we can see below.
Once we have signed in to our Microsoft Account a new page is displayed with the next steps that we must follow in order to install our app.
As we can see below we must:
Open Word, Excel or Project. In our example we have used Excel.
Then we must select the Insert tab and from the area of the ribbon named Apps we select the command Apps for Office and from the drop down menu that appears we select the command See All.
Once the Insert App window appears we must select the tab Office Store and then press the Refresh button in order to view all the apps that we have downloaded and that are ready to use.
Once we have followed all the steps described above, we select the app that we want to use and then press the Insert button as we can see in the image below.
The task pane at the right of our Excel workbook appears, where we just follow the steps in order to finish installing the app. For our example we can insert the ModelSheet in either the Worksheet or to Create Excel Workbook by clicking on the appropriate button.
Once we have selected the appropriate command we can view the ModelSheet in our Excel Worksheet ready for editing.
Whatever Apps we have installed are now available in the category Recently Used Apps of the Apps For Office drop down menu. So whenever we want to use them again we just select the desired one.
The same Apps will appear for both Word, Excel, and Project except if they are designed for the specific application we are using. A very good application that I have tried is the Bing Dictionary English app.
