Have you ever found yourself in the need to reused content while working in a Word Document? Have you ever found yourself the need to use existing content to keep yourself focused on the document creation rather than searching and looking throughout files to find information? This is where the Tap feature comes in. The Tap feature finds relevant files mostly used by us from Word, Excel and PowerPoint and displays them in the task pane.
We then select the Insert tab and we locate the area of the ribbon named Tap, and then select the Document Item command as shown in the image below.
Once the Document Item command is selected the Tap task pane appears at the right as we can see below. Under the Tap task pane, we are notified with the following:
Use Personalized Search To Find Documents And Conveniently Re-Use Parts Of Them.
All we have to do is to type in the Search Area of the Tap task pane where it mentions Find A Document what we want to search for and then press the Search button. In the image below I have typed “Smart Office” in the Search Area of the Tap task pane, and straight away beneath the results are displayed.
For my example, the results displayed for my criteria is a PowerPoint Presentation named Welcome To PowerPoint. It also displays when it was Modified and who the Author is. Once the results are displayed, we can hover over the Slides that we want to insert into our Word Document and then select the Add Slide icon which is located at the top right corner of each Slide. Once selected the actual Slide will be inserted into our Document.
We also notice at the bottom of the results area, how many Slides the Presentation contains, and we can move between the actuals Slides by using the Next button at the bottom of the results.
We also have available the Open in PowerPoint command and the View All Items commands which are located at the bottom right corner of the Results Area as shown in the image below. If we select the Open in PowerPoint command the Presentation will open in PowerPoint, where we can edit it and do what is needed.
If we press the View All Items command, all the Slides will be displayed in the Tap task pane as shown in the image below.
This new feature in Microsoft Word 2016, is a very fascinating and time saving one.
