How To Recover Unsaved Microsoft Office Files?

Let’s say that we have put a lot of effort typing in our Word Document or creating an Excel Workbook or even finalizing our PowerPoint Presentation. Suddenly they are gone! We haven’t even saved them. What happens next? How do we Recover them? Thankfully, it is not that hard to Recover our Word Documents, Excel Workbooks and PowerPoint Presentations in the recent versions of Microsoft Office. This is where the Recover Unsaved Files Feature appears in Microsoft Office and will be described in the post below.

Recover Unsaved Office Files

In the image below I have Microsoft Word running, where then I have selected the File tab to move to Backstage View. Once in Backstage View, from the drop-down menu from the left I have selected the Info category. Once the Info category is selected, I locate the area named Manage Document as shown below. If we select the Manage Document button located at the left, the drop-down menu appears, where we just select the Recover Unsaved Documents where we will browse recent unsaved files.

In the image below, I have selected the Recover Unsaved Documents command, where the Open dialog box appears and if any Unsaved Word Documents existed, they would be located here. All that will be needed to do, is to locate and select it and then press the Ok button so it would be Restored.

Another way to Recover an Unsaved Word Document is to select the File tab to move to Backstage View. Then from Backstage View, from the left we select the category Open as shown below. Then from the middle of the Open task pane, at the bottom we locate and select the command Recover Unsaved Documents as shown below.

In the image below I have Microsoft Excel running, where then I have selected the File tab to move to Backstage View. Once in Backstage View, from the drop-down menu from the left I have selected the Info category. Once the Info category is selected, I locate the area named Manage Workbook as shown below. If we select the Manage Workbook button located at the left, the drop-down menu appears, where we just select the Recover Unsaved Workbooks where we will browse recent unsaved files.

In the image below, I have selected the Recover Unsaved Workbooks command, where the Open dialog box appears and if any Unsaved Workbooks existed, they would be located here. All that will be needed to do, is to locate and select it and then press the Ok button so it would be Restored. In the image below, we can notice one Unsaved Workbook.

Another way to Recover an Unsaved Excel Workbook is to select the File tab to move to Backstage View. Then from Backstage View, from the left we select the category Open as shown below. Then from the middle of the Open task pane, at the bottom we locate and select the command Recover Unsaved Workbooks as shown below.

Once in Backstage View, from the drop-down menu from the left I have selected the Info category. Once the Info category is selected, I locate the area named Manage Presentation as shown below. If we select the Manage Presentation button located at the left, the drop-down menu appears, where we just select the Recover Unsaved Presentations where we will browse recent unsaved files.

In the image below, I have selected the Recover Unsaved Presentations command, where the Open dialog box appears and if any Unsaved Presentations existed, they would be located here. All that will be needed to do, is to locate and select it and then press the Ok button so it would be Restored.

Another way to Recover an Unsaved PowerPoint Presentation is to select the File tab to move to Backstage View. Then from Backstage View, from the left we select the category Open as shown below. Then from the middle of the Open task pane, at the bottom we locate and select the command Recover Unsaved Presentations as shown below.

So no need to panic, if by accident we have lost our Word Document, Excel Workbook and PowerPoint Presentation. Microsoft has thought about us, and has available for us the Recover Unsaved Files Feature.
