Have you ever been stuck, trying to find a Synonym for a Word in a Document? Have you repeated a particular Word so much in a Document, that you need to replace it but not to lose the meaning of it? This is where the Thesaurus appears in Microsoft Word. A tool for us, which is like a book that lists words in groups of Synonyms and related concepts, that we can easily use in our Documents. Keep on reading the post below to find how.
First we locate the Word that we need a Synonym for, and then we place our cursor in the Word or even select it and then do a right click with our mouse on it. Once we do the right click, a shortcut menu appears with a variety of commands, where we just navigate on top of the Synonym command as shown below. Once we select the Synonym command, a submenu appears with a variety of Synonyms to select from. All left to be done, is to select the Synonym that we want, and the one inside our Document will be replaced.
A different way to find a Synonym also, is to place our cursor in the Word or even select it and then we must select the Review tab and from the left area of the ribbon, we locate the area named Proofing as shown below. Then we select the Thesaurus command where We Will Get Suggestions In Another Way To Say What We Mean.
Once we select the Thesaurus command from the Proofing area, the Thesaurus Task Pane appears at the right of our screen as shown below. In this Thesaurus Task Pane we have many more options of Synonyms to select from. All we need to do, is to select the one that we want, and then we will be prompted to either Insert it or Copy it.
Another way to locate the Thesaurus Task Pane, is once we right click on the Word, from the shortcut menu that appears we select the command Thesaurus, which is located below of all the Suggested Words.
