How To Insert An Endnote in a Microsoft Word Document?

An Endnote can be a Comment, an Explanation or a Reference which is located at the end of a Document or the Section of a Document. They provide explanatory comments and contain reference information about the quoted material, that would not interrupt the flow of the main text by moving upwards and downwards in the Document. The Endnotes are indicated by SuperscriptNumbers located next to the text and at the End of the Document or Section of a Document.

We must select the References tab and locate the area of the ribbon named Footnotes as shown in the image below. If we hover over the command InsertEndnote we are notified with the following: Add A Note Like A Comment Or Citation, Providing More Info About Something In Your Document. Superscript Numbers Referring To Endnotes Are Added To Your Text.
Before we select the command, we must insert our cursor next to the text that we want to Insert the Endnote.
Once we select the InsertEndnote command, a SuperscriptNumber will be placed next to the text and we will immediately be transferred at the End of the Document, where the Endnote will appear. Next to the SuperscriptNumber that indicates the Endnoteatthe End of the Document, we must type in the information that we need. If we hover over the SuperscriptNumber in our Document, we will be able to see what we typed in the Endnote hovering on top of our Document. If we insert another Endnote in the Document, the Level of the Numbering of the Superscript will change also.
In the image below, we can see the text of the Endnote which is located at the End of the Document. We can also see the SuperscriptNumber, which corresponds to the Endnote.
We can move between the Endnotes in our Document, with the use of the command NextEndnote. From the References tab of the Ribbon, we locate the area of the ribbon named Footnotes and we select the command NextFootnote. From the drop-down menu that appears we can select either NextEndnote or PreviousEndnote as shown below.
If we want to modify the Format of the Endnotes or the Location, we must select the References tab and from the area of the ribbon named Footnotes we select the arrow located at the bottom right corner as shown below. Once selected, the Footnote and Endnote dialog box appears. In this dialog box we can modify the following, but first we must activate the check box at the left of the command Endnotes, so the changes apply only to them:
Location of the Endnotes:We can choose End of SectionorEnd of Document
Format of the Endnotes:
Number Format:We canChangetheFormatof theEndnotes
Custom Marks:We can insert aSymbolasEndnotes
Start At:We can define from whichNumbertoStart At
Numbering:We can selectContinuous, Restart at Each Section
AndfinallyApply Changes To: Whole Document
Whatever adjustments we do, we just press the Ok button located at the bottom right corner of the FootnoteandEndnote dialog box.
